Throughout the year, Hua Hin organises numerous events and festivals. Some are unique to Hua Hin while others are celebrated nationally.
Unfortunately, dates change from year-to-year and events get cancelled, so it's best to pop into a tourist office during your stay to get the latest information. The main events for 2012 are listed below.
1st - New Year's Day is celebrated nationally.
23rd - Chinese New year. The exact date changes every year as the festival co-incides with the full moon. It is not a public holiday, but is treated as such. Hua Hin gets very busy and there is dragon dancing in the town centre.
The Thailand International Kite festival is held every second year at The Rama VI army camp in Cha Am, Petchaburi province. The last event was held in 2010.
13/14/15 - Songran which is Thailand's New Year is held over these three days. In practice, the 13th is the main day and you can expect to get wet then. It is a national holiday throughout the country.
Date to be confirmed. Hua Hin will host the tenth annual Hua Hin Jazz Festival. It normally occurs over the first weekend in the month. Town gets extremely busy.
12th - Her Majesty the Queen's birthday is a national holiday. It is also mothers' day.
The Hua Hin Golf Festival is held on selected local courses throughout August and September. There are some great value discounted green fees.
Hua Hin Regatta is held during August.
28th - The colourful festival of Loy Kratong is held on this date. It is not a national holiday, but again is treated as such. Hua Hin beach gets particularly busy at night time as locals float their kratongs out to sea.
Hua Hin bike week and Pranburi Dragon Boat races are held in November.
5th - His Majesty The King's birthday. This is a national holiday.
10th - Constitution Day
25th - Christmas Day
31st - New Year's Eve
Hua Hin Vintage and Classic Car Rally is held in December at the Sofitel Hotel and around town.
As mentioned, there are other local festivals happening through the year. Check locally for what's going on and when. Events can include candle processions, flower shows, arts and crafts fairs and exhibitions promoting Hua Hin and the province of Prachuabkirikhan.
